About the Role
Security Officers provide 24-hour security coverage to the facility to prevent theft and ensure the safety of both the facility staff and residents. They are the first staff seen by new clients or anyone entering the facility, requiring them to be reliable, personable, professional, sensitive, and act as role models.
Responsibilities
- Maintain the safety and security of all residents through staff-specific posts, security rounds, enforcing facility rules, and communicating incidents to supervisory personnel.
- Provide timely and effective responses to resident emergencies, including altercations, medical emergencies, and reports of neglect or abuse.
- Liaise with police and other emergency services.
- Develop and maintain appropriate helping relationships with residents, encouraging self-reliance and self-esteem, and acting as a role model.
- Administer operational procedures for access control, reception, fire patrol, surveillance, and documentation.
- Verify children's departure to school, maintain a fire drill log, assist visitors, verify supervision of children, generate curfew reports, and answer the switchboard.
- Participate in training and staff-development activities.
- Communicate effectively with other staff within an interdisciplinary context.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalency.
- At least two (2) years of related experience in a shelter setting.
- Two (2) years of Security Guard experience.
- Active Security Guard License.
- Certified Fire Safety Guard (F02).
- Ability to exercise good judgment and apply problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge, experience, or capacity to work with homeless populations.
- Must be reliable, personable, professional, sensitive, and able to act as role models.
