About the Role

Under general supervision, club sport coaches recruit student athletes, assist in scheduling games, conduct practices for their assigned team, and contribute to the educational mission of the University by offering direction and instruction in club sports.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the educational mission of the University by coordinating the instruction of student-athletes.
• Recruit student athletes for the respective club sport program.
• Instruct methods and strategies, and coach students in the sport.
• Provide motivation, both athletic and academic, to student athletes.
• Assist student leaders in scheduling practices and meets.
• Supervise assistant coach/coaches.
• Assist students with team travel and supervise players when traveling.
• Work with team leaders to provide updated rosters to the Director of the Kiernan Center.
• Coordinate with team leaders on reporting team scores to the media for home and away games.
• Operate the program under the rules and regulations of the university and league.
• Maintain the confidentiality of all confidential and proprietary information.
• Review and apply all policies and procedures outlined in the university's Affirmative Action Plan.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
• Instruct, teach, and assist in the development of players during practices, conforming to league rules and regulations.
• Actively coach the team during games/scrimmages.
• Recruit players for the following year and make scholarship recommendations.
• Transport and supervise players when traveling.
• Provide accurate data to the Director of Club Sports about the team and its members.

Requirements

• Valid driver's license required, meeting insurance company rules and regulations for driving underwriting criteria.
• Must take and pass the 'American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.'
• Ability to handle routine office operations (typing, filing, record keeping, etc.).
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
• Ability to travel when necessary.
• Ability to drive a personal or university vehicle for university business on a regular basis.

Skills

• Knowledge of recruiting techniques and the ability to use them effectively.
• Ability to evaluate potential student athletes during the recruiting process.
• Knowledge of league rules and regulations.
• Knowledge of coaching and teaching techniques and the ability to use them effectively.
• Ability to read and comprehend various forms, documentation, files, and information.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
• Ability to receive telephone calls, respond to inquiries, and communicate with others by telephone.
• Basic mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
• Ability to work on a computer keyboard, typewriter, calculator, and perform tasks involving extensive wrist and hand movements.

Experience Level

• At least one year of experience in coaching at the high school, college, or higher competitive level or at least some experience in participating in the respective sport.
