About the Role

AOM Infusion is seeking an Infusion Nurse, Independent Contractor to provide high-quality, patient-centered care in the Long Island, NY area. This role involves diagnosing and treating patient health issues, providing primary patient care, educating patients and families, and coordinating care with in-house RN staff.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and document patient's biophysical, psychosocial, and educational needs.
  • Perform physical assessments and report identified problems to the physician and in-house RN staff.
  • Cooperate with in-house RN staff on the design and implementation of the nursing care plan.
  • Identify and report changes in patient's condition to in-house RN staff.
  • Provide patient and family education on health care needs, therapy, infection control, and disaster planning.
  • Insert, maintain, and assess all types of intravenous access devices.
  • Report changes or issues with access devices to in-house RN staff.
  • Demonstrate competence in performing all treatments per the physician's plan.
  • Report the need for discharge planning to in-house RN staff.
  • Demonstrate sound clinical judgment in planning and decision-making for the patient's plan of care.
  • Coordinate all patient care needs with other members of the healthcare team.
  • Maintain high standards of nursing care and implement AOM Infusion policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate nursing visits and care consistent with the physician's plan of treatment.
  • Monitor and maintain patient's supply inventory.
  • Maintain an inventory of emergency back-up supplies.
  • Clean and test infusion pumps as per AOM policy between each patient use.
  • Complete all required patient care documentation electronically via iPad.
  • Adhere to universal precautions, aseptic technique, and infection control guidelines.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA regulations and AOM Infusion policy.
  • Complete all charting as per AOM documentation policy within the required timeframe.
  • Report adverse events, patient incidents, or issues to in-house RN staff or on-call RN.
  • Report suspected inappropriate behavior or breaches to regulatory requirements or AOM Infusion policies to the Compliance Officer or Committee.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Licensed and registered as a registered nurse in the States where practicing.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • At least one year of experience as a registered nurse, preferably in a home infusion setting.
  • When providing care to pediatric patients, at least one year of experience as a pediatric nurse, preferably in a home infusion setting, or the ability to become competent in pediatric practices associated with pediatric home infusion.
  • Knowledge and experience in managing infusion access devices such as peripheral lines, PICC lines and central venous catheters including implantable ports.
  • Free from any communicable diseases, illnesses or injuries that may interfere with the ability to perform tasks required of the position.
  • Flexible with work schedule.
  • Takes responsibility for primary patients, and provides necessary care needs when an after-hours need arises.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Intermittent visits based on nurse’s availability.
