About the Role
The Group Fitness Instructor is responsible for leading and developing the group exercise programme, delivering a diverse, engaging, and high-quality class offering that supports member wellbeing, participation, and retention. The role oversees the overall group exercise proposition, ensuring the timetable remains commercially effective, innovative, and aligned with member demand and corporate wellbeing objectives. The role is accountable for achieving class utilisation targets through effective timetable management, performance analysis, instructor development, and member engagement initiatives. The role manages relationships with freelance and employed instructors, ensuring classes are consistently delivered to a high standard and reflect the organisation’s brand and service expectations. There is a requirement to teach between a minimum 8-10 group exercise classes per week.
Responsibilities
- Manage and deliver key KPIs, including class utilisation, instructor cost control, and class revenue performance
- Lead the daily operational delivery of the group exercise programme, ensuring safe, efficient, high-quality class execution
- Optimise the group exercise timetable to balance commercial performance, member demand, and class variety
- Maintain high standards across all studio spaces, including cleanliness, presentation, equipment readiness, and safety compliance
- Oversee instructor performance through audits, feedback, payroll accuracy, and adherence to operational and health & safety standards
- Produce, analyse, and maintain accurate reporting on utilisation, attendance, payroll, and programme performance to support decision-making
- Identify trends, risks, and opportunities through data analysis, providing insight-driven recommendations to improve participation and retention
- Collaborate with fitness and member experience teams to enhance member engagement, support wellbeing initiatives, and improve overall customer experience
Requirements
- Demonstrable experience within fitness, wellbeing or service environments
- Strong customer-focused mindset, maintain engagement and satisfaction across all team members to consistently deliver service excellence and client value.
- Strong experience teaching a range of group exercise classes
- Commercial awareness and experience managing budgets and performance outcomes.
- Strong organisational and planning capability
- An effective communicator with influencing skills across a team
- Experience driving continuous improvement and innovation.
