About the Role
A Design Engineer at Jamestown Plastics is responsible for converting conceptual ideas into practical designs and overseeing the entire product development process from initial concept to final implementation.
Responsibilities
- Act as Project Manager for Customer projects assigned.
- Communicate between the Customer, Sales, and Vendors to establish an understanding of Customer expectations and requirements and the ability to meet these requirements.
- Design Customer products, the associated processes and tooling that create Customer products.
- Assist Production with initial development of the processes and configurations which will produce the Customer's product.
- Define the Design and Development Output risks.
- Review the Design and Development Inputs.
- Implement design control.
- Generate project schedule and plan.
- Prepare and/or review engineering change requests, developing and overseeing preparation and implementation of all engineering change notices and document change control.
- Review prototype samples and validate before sending to the customer for approval.
- Perform Internal validation on the production tool.
- Perform a post project review.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area and update supplies as needed.
- Comply with the Quality Policy and those Quality Management System and Quality Objective impacted by this position.
- Comply with and assist the Company in enforcing the Company Rules, as described in the Employee Manual.
- Observe and follow company safety rules and regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Company.
Requirements
- High School Graduate or GED
- College or Technical training in design and the use of Computer Aided Design software
- Knowledge of design and engineering principles and best practices.
- Experience in Computer Aided Manufacturing and Basic Machining a plus
- The ability to communicate verbally with customers, management, and other coworkers is crucial.
- Good reasoning ability, ability to think in abstract terms, and design aptitude are required to solve a wide range of business problems.
- The ability to multi-task and manage time effectively.
- Regular use of the telephone and e-mail for communication is essential.
- Sitting for extended periods is common.
- Hearing and vision within normal ranges is helpful for normal conversations, to receive ordinary information and to prepare or inspect documents.
- Exertion of up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally may be required.
