About the Role
BioScout is seeking a Business Development Manager to own and run the full sales cycle for their AgTech product in the ANZ region. This role involves selling world-first sensor technology that helps farmers detect and manage airborne crop diseases, leading to better crops, reduced chemical use, and lower costs. The company has achieved product-market fit and has a live pipeline, making this a scaling opportunity rather than a build-from-scratch scenario. You will be the first dedicated ANZ sales hire, reporting to the Chief Revenue Officer and partnering with a marketing hire.
Responsibilities
- Build and manage targeted prospect lists across ANZ: growers, agribusinesses, and farm owner-operators across BioScout's key crop verticals.
- Run outbound sales activities including cold calls, LinkedIn outreach, and email campaigns, with a research-led approach.
- Own the full sales cycle: qualify leads, conduct discovery calls, build business cases, navigate buying committees, and close deals.
- Attend field days, agricultural conferences, and industry events across ANZ, involving approximately one week of travel per month.
- Conduct on-farm visits to build relationships with key prospects and customers.
- Maintain disciplined CRM records and provide accurate pipeline reporting.
- Collaborate with the CRO on managing warm lead handovers from international networks.
- Provide field intelligence to the marketing team regarding buyer language, messaging, and campaign effectiveness.
Requirements
- Ability to engage effectively on a farm, speak plainly, ask pertinent questions, and make stakeholders feel understood.
- Proactive in initiating conversations and comfortable with cold calling.
- Skilled in identifying genuine sales opportunities and prioritizing efforts effectively.
- Proven track record of meeting sales targets independently.
- Organized approach to managing a large, active pipeline without losing track of deal status.
- Experience in fast-paced environments where systems may be underdeveloped and priorities can shift.
- Honest and direct communication style, avoiding overselling or making unfulfillable promises.
- A background in agriculture, agribusiness, capital equipment, or hardware sales is beneficial.
- Experience in fields with long buying cycles and where buyers invest their own funds is advantageous.
- A personal connection to the land is a plus, but not a requirement.
