About the Role
Maintained a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for students, staff, and visitors throughout the school building.
Responsibilities
- Cleaned classrooms, hallways, offices, restrooms, cafeterias, and common areas by sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and disinfecting surfaces.
- Emptied trash and recycling bins and ensured proper waste disposal.
- Restocked restroom and classroom supplies, including soap, paper towels, and toilet paper.
- Performed routine maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs, changing air filters, and reporting repair needs to maintenance staff.
- Set up and broke down tables, chairs, and equipment for school events, meetings, and assemblies.
- Operated and maintained cleaning equipment, including floor scrubbers, buffers, and vacuums.
- Followed safety procedures and proper handling of cleaning chemicals in accordance with school and OSHA guidelines.
- Assisted with snow removal and salting of walkways during winter months to maintain safe access to the building.
- Responded promptly to spills, emergencies, and maintenance requests to ensure a safe learning environment.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous custodial, janitorial, or facility maintenance experience preferred.
- Knowledge of proper cleaning methods, sanitation procedures, and safe use of cleaning chemicals.
- Ability to operate custodial equipment, including vacuums, floor scrubbers, buffers, and carpet cleaners.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks such as bending, kneeling, climbing, and standing for extended periods.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and organized environment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Basic knowledge of building maintenance and minor repairs.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills when interacting with students, staff, and visitors.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends when needed for special events or emergencies.
- Ability to pass required background checks in accordance with school district and state requirements.
