About the Role
The MSK Westchester Clinical Lab is seeking an experienced Supervisor, Laboratory Medicine to oversee onsite operations. This role involves supervising daily activities, managing personnel, and ensuring technical procedures meet high-quality standards and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
- Supervise the day-to-day operations of the clinical lab.
- Work collaboratively with clinical staff, leadership, physicians, patient care staff, clinicians, reference labs, and business partners to optimize workflow while maintaining accreditation and licensure.
- Develop personnel goals, tasks, and service standards to foster high morale and motivation.
- Maintain training and competency files for staff.
- Review and approve new or revised documents, processes, and test methods.
- Perform monthly reviews of instrument maintenance, decontamination, and compliance forms.
- Establish, implement, and maintain the SOP Manual, ensuring accuracy and adherence.
- Assess the impact of non-conformance events and conduct investigations.
- Coordinate and supervise personnel in the technical operations of the Clinical lab.
- Ensure technical procedures are performed according to SOPs with high quality and in a timely manner.
- Review documents for completeness.
- Schedule staff to ensure undisrupted operation.
- Review, report, and investigate all non-conformance events.
- Review all completed result reports.
- Participate in program improvement activities, identify learning needs, and contribute ideas for management decision-making.
- Oversee the performance of periodic equipment quality control and preventive maintenance procedures.
- Provide bench coverage when needed.
- Assist in guaranteeing compliance with local, state, and federal accrediting and regulatory organizations.
- Perform audits of clinical lab operations to ensure compliance with quality/compliance programs, SOPs, and regulatory agencies.
- Communicate audit findings to the clinical lab Director/management team.
Requirements
- 4+ years of proven experience required.
- Hematology experience preferred.
- Strong personnel skills.
- NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist License required.
- ASCP preferred.
Skills
- Communication: Ability to compose written correspondence and present information clearly and concisely.
- Information Management: Ability to communicate, explain, interpret, share, and present information to employees, management, clinical staff, and external contacts.
- Time Management: Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
