About the Role
The Director, Financial Optimization leads client engagements that strengthen the financial performance of hospitals, health systems, and physician groups. This is a delivery leadership role grounded in healthcare finance, spanning financial planning and analysis, cost and margin improvement, and revenue performance. The Director owns engagements end to end, serves as a senior point of contact for client finance leadership, and is accountable for the quality and measurable impact of the team’s work. The Director also manages and develops high-performing teams and partners with FTI leadership to deliver sustainable results for clients.
Responsibilities
- Lead client engagements focused on healthcare financial performance, including financial planning and analysis (FP&A), cost and margin improvement, and revenue performance.
- Own engagement delivery end to end, managing scope, timeline, budget, and quality, and at times serving as the senior client-facing lead with client finance leadership.
- Direct financial analysis and modeling to size opportunities and quantify impact across revenue, cost, and margin.
- Assess and improve core finance functions, including the general ledger, chart of accounts, close and consolidation, budgeting, and FP&A reporting.
- Build and review financial models, forecasts, budgets, and management reporting, including dashboards in Power BI or Tableau.
- Translate findings into executive-ready recommendations and lead presentations to CFOs and other leaders.
- Manage, coach, and develop engagement teams (Senior Consultants and Consultants), providing feedback and supporting their growth.
- Contribute to the practice through methodologies, tools, and points of view that strengthen how FTI serves healthcare finance clients.
- Stay current on healthcare finance trends, including reimbursement pressure, cost structure dynamics, and physician enterprise economics.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related quantitative field.
- 7+ years of relevant post-graduate professional experience in healthcare finance, in consulting or a provider finance role.
- Strong knowledge of healthcare finance, including familiarity with accounting and transactional finance functions.
- Prior experience managing or leading a team.
- Physician group and/or hospital-based finance experience.
- Strong analytical and financial modeling skills.
- Familiarity with ERP systems, general ledgers, and budgeting or planning systems.
- Ability to travel to client sites and FTI offices as needed.
