About the Role
The Resident Care Aide (RCA) nurtures and supports residents by providing excellent care in a family environment. The RCA recognizes and responds to resident needs appropriately, assisting with daily living activities and personal grooming while encouraging independence and respecting resident wishes.
Responsibilities
- Support emotional, physical, and social well-being of elders.
- Encourage independence of elders with decision-making.
- Establish meaningful relationships with elders by valuing individuality.
- Assist in developing and carrying out lifestyle programs and activities.
- Assist in maintaining clean common spaces and laundry rooms.
- Attend monthly staff meetings and quarterly organization-wide meetings.
- Assist with routine procedures such as personal care, dressing, grooming, transfer, and toileting.
- Assist elders with positioning and transporting in and out of chairs, beds, bathtubs, and cars.
- Transport elders to other areas of the community.
- Report physical or mental status changes or concerns to LPN, RN/Case Manager, or Program Coordinator.
- Communicate with co-workers to meet the needs of the elders.
- Maintain a safe, hazard-free environment by observing and reporting unsafe conditions.
- Follow procedures for documentation.
- Work with individual residents or groups in special activity programs.
- Respond to common inquiries from residents, resident families, regulatory agencies, and the public.
- Provide redirection to confused or distressed residents.
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality with staff and peers.
- Remain calm, reassuring, and effective in a chaotic atmosphere.
- Follow established protocol for accidents and incidents.
- Attend and participate in 12 hours annually of training programs and other educational classes.
- Complete additional tasks as requested by Program Coordinator, RN/Case Manager, or LPN.
- Report observations or changes in residents' behavior, activity, or physical appearance.
- Follow infection control guidelines.
- Attend and participate in disaster preparedness training and drills.
- Assist residents during meals with direction, cueing, and assistive devices.
- Monitor elders during meals.
- Provide assistance to elders with medical equipment.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Certification as a NYS Home Health Aide (HHA) required.
- Willingness to complete onsite RCA training.
- Minimum of 2 years of past experience providing direct resident care in home health or long-term care required.
- Proficient in writing and reading English.
Skills
- Medication assistance training desirable.
- Med Tech experience desirable.
- Ability to work with individual residents or groups.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries.
- Ability to provide redirection to confused or distressed residents.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Ability to remain calm, reassuring and effective in a chaotic atmosphere.

- Sunday 3pm-11:30pm
- Wednesday 3p-11:30pm
- Sun, Wed and Sat evening 3-11pm
Experience Level
- Minimum of 2 years of past experience providing direct resident care required in home health or long-term care.
Education Level
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Certification as a NYS Home Health Aide (HHA)
