About the Role
The Engineering Manager provides leadership, direction, and planning for all Product Engineering functions, including product development, electrical and mechanical design, drafting, and Sales and Manufacturing support.
Responsibilities
- Communicates Company’s vision, mission and strategic direction.
- Leads, guides, directs, and evaluates the work of direct reports, meeting budget goals and accountability measures.
- Manages all activities and functions of the Engineering department, including design responsibility for all new unit and aftermarket orders.
- Supports Sales and Marketing with technical and commercial input.
- Ensures products and parts are designed for efficient production, safety, quality, and delivery standards.
- Achieves short and long-term goals and objectives for Engineering areas.
- Defines and implements solutions for continuous improvement of design and manufacturing processes.
- Ensures Engineering systems and design tools remain updated to support current and future performance.
- Prepares operating budgets for Engineering and ensures activities are conducted according to budget guidelines.
- Develops and disseminates policies, procedures, and processes regarding design methods, quality, and safety.
- Adheres to and supports the Electric Machinery Quality Systems.
- Works closely and harmoniously with all other functional and support groups.
- Manages the efforts and results of assigned supervisors, lead persons, and support personnel.
- Provides coaching, development, and day-to-day support for staff and next-tier leadership.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years direct supervisory experience in a technical environment.
- Demonstrated problem solving skills.
- Expert level knowledge of design and commercial processes.
- Experience with process improvements and lean principles in a highly technical and specialized design environment.
- Ability to coordinate and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to teach, coach, and work with all levels of Engineering, Production, and support personnel.
- Effective communication and interaction across all levels of the organization.
- Customer interaction and management skills are essential.
- Must be self-starting, results-oriented, flexible, and a team player.
