About the Role

Cat Digital is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Digital Identity & Onboarding engineering team. This role will provide hands-on engineering leadership for mission-critical applications within Caterpillar’s digital ecosystem, focusing on customer onboarding, digital application governance, and unified user identity management. The engineer will design, develop, and deliver scalable, secure, customer-facing web and API platforms supporting global users and applications.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all stages of software development, including refining product vision, gathering requirements, project planning, system design, coding, testing, release, deployment, and support.
  • Contribute across all stages of the software development lifecycle, including requirements refinement, system design, implementation, testing, deployment, and production support.
  • Design, develop, and enhance full-stack web applications.
  • Build secure, scalable, and maintainable solutions using modern architecture patterns (microservices, event-driven, API-first).
  • Collaborate closely with product owners, UX designers, and platform teams to deliver high-quality, business-valuable features on time.
  • Drive engineering best practices including code quality, automated testing, CI/CD, security, and observability.
  • Participate in on-call and operational support rotations for critical production systems as needed.

Requirements

  • Strong hands-on experience building full-stack applications using Java and modern front-end frameworks (Angular preferred), following industry best practices for security and scalability.
  • Solid understanding of end-to-end SDLC, with experience working in Agile/Scrum teams.
  • Experience designing and integrating RESTful APIs and services across internal and external platforms.
  • Ability to translate business and market requirements into well-designed, scalable software architectures.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make informed technical decisions in complex environments.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Professional software development experience, with strong emphasis on React JS and Next.js.
  • Extensive experience building customer-facing web applications using React JS (4+ preferred) or similar frameworks, along with HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.
  • Cloud-native development experience (AWS preferred) and familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Experience implementing application and API security best practices, including OAuth 2.0 and federated identity integrations.
  • Experience designing and operating large-scale, highly available systems in production.
  • Knowledge of event-driven and messaging architectures (Kafka, SQS, SNS, or similar).
  • Experience with API gateways and tooling such as Swagger/OpenAPI, Postman, and API proxies.
  • Strong understanding of application observability, testing strategies, and automated quality pipelines (Cypress, Selenium, TDD/BDD).
  • Demonstrated leadership on medium-to-large initiatives impacting strategic digital platforms.
