About the Role

NCP is seeking an experienced and commercially minded Head of IT to lead a significant transformation of its technology function. This 12-month fixed-term contract role involves modernising the IT estate, standardising processes, and ensuring the technology function is future-ready.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the simplification and standardisation of IT processes across the business.
  • Oversee major infrastructure programmes and ensure successful delivery while maintaining operational stability.
  • Review the existing IT estate, evaluate alternative solutions, and make recommendations on future platform strategy.
  • Drive commercial value by identifying opportunities to reduce costs, improve efficiencies, and optimise technology investments.
  • Manage key IT suppliers and contracts, ensuring value for money and strong service delivery.
  • Work closely with the Finance Director to develop business cases, manage budgets, and ensure technology decisions support commercial objectives.
  • Build strong relationships across the Executive Team and wider business.
  • Lead and develop a lean IT team, maintaining high levels of engagement and performance during transformation.
  • Provide pragmatic leadership, removing complexity and focusing the IT function on delivering value.

Requirements

  • Significant experience leading IT functions through periods of transformation.
  • Successfully delivered large-scale infrastructure and technology change programmes.
  • Strong commercial acumen, including supplier management, contract negotiation, and cost optimisation.
  • Confident working alongside senior stakeholders, particularly Finance, to develop business cases and support investment decisions.
  • Experience evaluating enterprise infrastructure technologies, including virtualisation platforms such as VMware.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and build credibility across all levels of the organisation.
  • Comfortable leading a lean team and creating an environment where people embrace change.
  • Practical, hands-on approach and enjoy solving problems.
  • Resilient, decisive, and capable of delivering results in a fast-paced commercial environment.
  • Experience working within multi-site, customer-facing organisations such as Facilities Management, Retail, Transport, Logistics or similar sectors.
  • Experience of leading infrastructure modernisation, IT operating model improvements, vendor consolidation, and technology simplification programmes is highly advantageous.
