About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated Asylum Shelter Residential Aide to ensure the safety, security, and well-being of both asylum seekers and staff, as well as maintaining a secure and welcoming environment in compliance with asylum seeker-specific policies and operational procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor asylum seekers, living units, dormitories, and facility premises to ensure resident safety and security.
  • Adhere to asylum seeker-specific shelter policies and staff policies and procedures.
  • Conduct administrative tasks, including maintaining communication logs and documenting asylum seeker activities, behaviors, and engagement.
  • Provide compassionate assistance to asylum seekers, addressing questions, and resolving issues.
  • Inspect all items entering the facility to ensure the safety of asylum seekers and staff.
  • Monitor video footage of common areas.
  • Adhere to safety, health, and fire hazard guidelines, organizational policies, and procedures.
  • Conduct regular hourly rounds of the facility.
  • Report immediate safety hazards to appropriate personnel.
  • Collaborate with security personnel to ensure the safety of staff and asylum seekers.
  • Prepare living spaces for vacancies, including emptying, cleaning, and tagging belongings when necessary.
  • Document all incident details, participants, actions taken, and outcomes.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in scheduling, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

  • Ability to walk, stand, kneel, crouch, and bend over.
  • Ability to lift, reach, and handle objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to travel to different locations within New York City, as needed.
  • Staff must continue working past their shift unless relieved or authorized to leave by a supervisor.
  • May be required to work on or during evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • NYS Security License preferred.
  • F-02 Certificate of Fitness.
  • CPR/Basic First Aid certification.
  • Food handler certificate NYC/NYS.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional boundaries when working with asylum seekers.
  • Prior experience in a residential facility is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA guidelines and standards.
  • Must be able to read, speak, write, and understand English for administrative purposes.
  • Must pass drug screening.
  • This position may be subject to a series of investigations before and after appointment.
  • Misrepresentation of qualifications or submission of false information may result in rejection or termination.

Salary/Compensations

  • $18.68 - $19.23 per hour
  • $34,000 - $35,000 per year
