About the Role
The Core Experience team is responsible for the initial and daily interactions users have with Rippling. This includes building onboarding flows, self-serve growth infrastructure for product discovery and purchase, and foundational elements like the home dashboard, navigation, user management, and company settings. The team operates at the intersection of product surface and platform infrastructure, creating reusable components and scaling self-serve checkout and entitlement flows for a multi-product environment. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy building foundational systems that enhance team output and prioritize user experience quality.
Responsibilities
- Design and build backend systems powering Core Experience's highest-leverage surfaces: onboarding flows, self-serve purchasing, and shared platform primitives.
- Take end-to-end technical ownership, including schema design, API contracts, performance, reliability, and production observability.
- Collaborate directly with product and design teams to shape feature development.
- Build for scale and reuse, ensuring systems are correct, well-documented, and thoughtfully abstracted for consumption by other engineering teams.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong track record in backend systems.
- Systems thinking: Design for scale, fault tolerance, and correctness from the start. Understand trade-offs between consistency and availability.
- Full-stack range: Backend-leaning but comfortable owning features end-to-end.
- High agency: Proactively identify problems, scope solutions, and execute without needing well-defined tickets.
- Platform instinct: Approach work as infrastructure for others, writing code and designing APIs accordingly.
- Deep proficiency in a modern backend language (e.g., Python, Go, Java).
- Strong data modeling skills across SQL and NoSQL.
