About the Role

Responsibilities
- Set the vision and roadmap for the catalog and semantic layer.
- Develop points of view in ambiguous territory and drive the team toward them.
- Manage the systems that describe every table, field, and object in Rippling's data model, including auto-generation of metadata for custom fields and imported data.
- Define the product strategy for how AI disambiguates user intent across various data sources.
- Develop the model and tooling for data lineage to map data flow and dependencies.
- Oversee the Catalog UI, including search, browse, discovery, detail views, and lineage visualization.
- Set cross-team standards for metadata and establish review processes and intake mechanisms.
- Partner proactively with other teams to understand and address their metadata needs.
Requirements
- 8+ years of product experience, with significant time in data platform or data infrastructure (semantic layers, metadata, data catalogs, or adjacent).
- AI-native thinking, understanding how LLMs use structured context and the impact of catalog quality on AI reliability.
- Systems orientation focused on scalable generation and maintenance of data.
- Proven ability in cross-functional influence, building relationships and making work better for other teams.
- Ability to form well-reasoned opinions and drive them forward.
- Technical depth, including the ability to read schemas and discuss retrieval trade-offs with engineers.
- Motivation for building foundational, often invisible, layers that enable other functionalities.
