About the Role
Lead the procurement of upholstered furniture, including sofas, sectionals, chairs, and soft seating, across the company's portfolio. This role involves owning the category sourcing strategy, evaluating and onboarding manufacturers, running RFPs, and negotiating contracts to ensure optimal quality and pricing. You will collaborate with design and product teams to meet aesthetic, functional, and sustainability goals while managing costs. The position leverages AI tooling for tasks such as RFP automation, BOM analysis, cost modeling, and vendor scorecards, allowing focus on negotiation, vendor development, and product partnership.
Responsibilities
- Set category-wide sourcing strategy for upholstered furniture.
- Manage senior relationships with domestic and international manufacturers.
- Hold manufacturers accountable through business reviews, scorecards, and contractual commitments.
- Use AI-powered supplier discovery to identify and onboard new factories.
- Expand the vendor base and eliminate single-source risk.
- Define strategic vendor criteria.
- Drive margin expansion through negotiation of pricing, payment terms, and capacity commitments.
- Use AI-assisted RFP automation and cost modeling to benchmark and surface savings.
- Track commodity and FX movements with AI tooling.
- Forecast material demand and analyze commodity pricing.
- Maintain an accurate Bill of Materials (BOM) across the portfolio.
- Serve as the primary contact for fabric mill partners.
- Secure preferred access to new materials, competitive pricing, and priority capacity.
- Ensure offshore teams maintain rigorous purchase-volume records for negotiations and rebates.
- Manage yardage inventory and the swatch library.
- Lead packaging procurement and supplier selection.
- Ensure packaging protects product integrity, enhances customer experience, and minimizes cost and waste.
- Utilize AI tools daily to automate tasks like RFP automation, BOM analysis, cost modeling, and commodity tracking.
- Identify new tasks for automation to free up capacity for negotiation and vendor development.
- Serve as a hands-on user of AI tools.
- Act as a liaison between sourcing, design, merchandising, operations, and finance.
- Own the product development calendar, ensuring milestones are met and orders are placed promptly.
- Provide stakeholders with visibility into status, costs, and risks.
- Ensure studio samples, fabric swatches, and replacement parts are consistently available.
- Build scalable procurement processes to avoid delays in customer or studio interactions.
- Ensure sourced furniture meets performance and durability standards.
- Ensure furniture is produced in ethical, environmentally responsible factories.
- Drive continuous improvement through supplier scorecards.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Industrial Design, Business, or related field.
- 7+ years in furniture sourcing or manufacturing procurement, ideally upholstered products or seating.
- Deep knowledge of upholstered construction (frames, foam densities, fabric cutting and sewing).
- Understanding of how raw materials, labor, and packaging influence finished goods pricing.
- Expertise managing BOMs to understand component, routing, and labor cost contributions.
- Strong negotiation skills and proven success running RFPs and securing favorable supplier terms.
- Familiarity with packaging procurement and sustainable, cost-effective packaging solutions.
- Demonstrated AI fluency with daily, hands-on use of AI tools for sourcing tasks.
- Advanced analytical skills.
- Fluent in Excel, ERP/MRP systems, and cost modeling tools.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams and build partnerships across cultures.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally for factory visits and trade shows.
- Own the sourcing pipeline end-to-end.
- Navigate supply chain challenges with resilience.
- Think strategically and solve problems proactively.
- Balance multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Build strong relationships through collaboration and clear communication.
- AI-curious mindset and personal use of AI to accelerate work.
- Currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
