About the Role

At Fresh Clinics, the Senior Financial Accountant is the technical backbone of a finance function undergoing transformation. This role is responsible for making numbers stand up to scrutiny, owning statutory reporting, technical accounting framework, and tax and payroll compliance across Australia and the US, reporting directly to the Financial Controller. This is a contract-to-permanent role for someone who enjoys building rather than maintaining.

Responsibilities

  • Own the backlog: Take charge of PBC preparation and manage auditor relationships to close outstanding statutory audits within 90 days.
  • Stay audit-ready: Build workpapers, reconciliations for all accounts, and documentation for year-end.
  • Serve as the primary contact for external auditors, working with the team to find answers quickly.
  • Prepare statutory financial statements for Australian and US entities in line with AASB and IFRS.
  • Maintain consolidation workpapers and intercompany eliminations across the entity structure.
  • Support M&A transactions including post-deal reporting considerations.
  • Ensure the annual close delivers reliable, clean, documented, and defensible financials.
  • Own general ledger accuracy and the technical accounting framework across entities.
  • Stay updated on technical accounting matters and prepare memos to support accounting treatment and adjustments.
  • Serve as the go-to expert for technical accounting questions.
  • Own income tax returns, GST, FBT, payroll tax, and PAYG compliance in Australia and the US.
  • Manage R&D tax incentive claims and supporting documentation.
  • Design and monitor internal controls and accounting policies.
  • Review payroll reconciliations and ensure all statutory obligations are met across AU and US.
  • Provide technical oversight of payroll compliance.

Requirements

  • CA or CPA qualification is a firm requirement.
  • 6+ years of progressive accounting experience with meaningful external audit exposure.
  • Experience preparing and defending statutory financial statements.
  • Proficiency in Australian tax expertise across income tax, GST, FBT, and payroll tax.
  • Multi-entity or consolidation experience, including intercompany eliminations.
  • A builder's mindset, capable of creating structure in a transforming finance function.
  • Clear, confident communication skills to translate complex accounting positions into plain language and withstand auditor scrutiny.
