About the Role
The Commodities and Environmental Markets (CEM) business within Institutional Banking & Markets (IB&M) aims to be the preferred provider of commodity risk management and financing solutions. This role will contribute to developing the commodities trading platform through continuous improvement of pricing and risk management tools, increasing product capabilities, and enhancing the overall commodities profile within the Bank.
Responsibilities
- Lead trading activities within the London-based Commodities Trading team, with a primary focus on base metals and exposure across energy, agriculture, bulks and precious metals.
- Develop and execute profitable trading strategies by identifying market trends, managing trading books, and operating within the bank's risk framework.
- Apply strong pricing and risk management expertise to optimise trading performance and support business growth.
- Contribute to the Commodities business strategy by identifying market opportunities and supporting the delivery of long-term growth objectives.
- Collaborate with global trading, sales, structuring and quantitative teams to generate market insights, improve pricing models, and enhance risk management capabilities.
- Build strong partnerships with key internal stakeholders, including Product Control, Market Risk, Operations, Legal, Tax and Credit Risk, to ensure effective governance and execution.
- Support new product development and drive continuous improvements to trading processes, systems and operational efficiency.
- Represent the bank within the broader commodities market, building industry relationships and enhancing the firm's profile in the London commodities sector.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years’ experience of managing linear & non-linear commodity risk as a Base Metals Trader at a major financial institution or corporate.
- Strong knowledge of Base Metals markets, including experience of strong eligible counterparties and clients.
- Experience in Precious Metals, Energy, Agriculture and Carbon markets will be highly regarded.
- Strong analytical, quantitative & problem solving skills.
- Experience of working within a global team to a high level of operational control in a regulated environment.
- Experience with AI and coding language (Python) will be highly regarded.
- Hold relevant regulatory qualifications to work in the UK.

- CEM works closely with the Bank’s key industry coverage teams particularly within the Natural Resources & Industrial, Transport & Consumer sectors.
- The CEM business plan focuses on aligning the business to focus on delivering a key product set to the Banks clients where we have a strategic advantage.
- The commodities business within CTC currently employs 30+ people located in Sydney, London, Amsterdam, Singapore & New York as key hubs for the commodities business, including a team of 10 traders located in London & Sydney.
