About the Role
At Cleveland Clinic London (CCL), the Staff Nurse provides effective and efficient patient care to the highest standard, ensuring patient safety and aligning with CCL's mission and values. This role involves working within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver high-quality nursing practice and build strong relationships with other departments for seamless patient service.
Responsibilities
- Provide individualized patient care and document accurate records.
- Facilitate patient flow, communication, and problem-solving within the Outpatient department.
- Prioritize tasks effectively, including the workload of others.
- Carry out nursing care to the highest standard according to CCL Policy and Clinical Guidelines, in line with NMC requirements.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues and patients to reduce treatment delays.
- Coordinate and assist with clinics and minor procedures.
- Act as a chaperone when necessary.
- Ensure clinical practice complies with CCL policies and procedures.
- Be flexible in staffing situations.
- Participate in departmental meetings.
- Provide and validate teaching and educational material for patients and families.
- Maintain patient confidentiality, privacy, and dignity.
- Maintain professional growth and development through ongoing education and clinical nursing study.
- Provide students with opportunities to learn practical skills and gain knowledge.
- Administer patient medication safely and effectively.
- Attend daily safety huddles.
- Lead the nursing team in patient care, collaborating with other disciplines.
- Demonstrate Shared Governance principles.
- Participate in the mentorship and induction of new Caregivers and student nurses.
- Provide feedback on individual progression and identify concerns.
- Liaise with senior Caregivers through regular feedback.
- Demonstrate professional behavior, clinical competence, and decision-making.
- Identify own training needs and maintain professional development.
- Actively participate in clinical audit.
- Adhere to CCL Policies relating to Safeguarding, Fire, Risk Management, and Health and Safety.
- Ensure understanding of the Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberty, and Safeguarding.
- Identify and escalate safeguarding concerns.
- Attend all mandatory training/updates.
- Comply with COSHH regulations and carry out assessments.
- Be competent in the safe use and storage of all equipment, reporting faults promptly.
- Adhere to the NMC code of conduct and act as the patient advocate.
- Participate effectively in quality improvement initiatives and ensure KPIs are achieved.
- Ensure adherence to CCL Complaints Management Policy and communicate courteously.
- Ensure a safe environment for patients, Caregivers, and visitors.
- Demonstrate Infection Control principles and take appropriate action.
- Use resources in a cost-effective and responsible manner.
- Carry out additional roles and responsibilities as delegated by the senior team.
- Participate in research and innovation and the dissemination of Evidence Based Practice.
Requirements
- Current nursing registration (First Level) through the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) required with no restrictions to practice.
- Ability to speak and write in English is required.
- Equivalent to a level of 7 of the International English Language Testing System or the Occupational English Test (OET) at level B is required.
- Ability to work autonomously and within a team environment.
- Ability to prioritize workload, ensuring high quality, safe and effective patient care.
- Ability to manage and respond to patients and visitors with challenging behaviour and know when to ask for assistance.
- Demonstrates initiative to proactively problem solve with a solution focus, escalating more complex issues as required.
- Ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with the multi-disciplinary team.
- Being reliable and flexible, demonstrating enthusiasm and commitment.
- Good oral and written communication skills with clear handwriting and computer literacy.
- Demonstrable broad clinical experience in the acute care field.
- Track record of achievement of objectives in present and past jobs in the clinical field.
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
- This role may be subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order (as amended) and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
