About the Role
SUNY Sullivan is seeking an Adjunct Biology Faculty member to deliver well-prepared lessons, hold office hours, communicate with students and staff, and adhere to college policies. This role involves teaching Introduction to Biology and potentially Principles of Biology, encouraging critical thinking, and modeling professional ethical behavior.
Responsibilities
- Deliver well-prepared lessons
- Hold weekly on-site office hours
- Engage in regular and timely communication with students and staff via college email
- Develop and follow clear and transparent grading practices
- Adhere to college and department policies
- Submit requested grades, records, and academic paperwork by posted deadlines
- Encourage students to think critically and analyze information
- Model professional ethical behavior
- Teach up to 14 contact hours of general biology courses
- Teach potential additional courses related to the applicant's area of professional expertise
- Demonstrate excellence in teaching
- Effectively interact with a diverse student and employee population
- Take part as needed in advising and mentoring students
- Take part as needed in developing curricula
- Take part as needed in recruiting students
- Take part as needed in attending division and faculty meetings
Requirements
- Master's degree in Biology or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Biology and 6 years or more experience in the field
- Teaching experience, preferably in the community college setting
- Excellent interpersonal skills for working with diverse groups
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to adapt to and effectively learn new technologies (learning management systems, online tools, etc.)
- Familiarity with a breadth and depth of technologies, as applied to specific classes
