About the Role
The Chief Risk Office (CRO) function at Deutsche Bank Japan, specifically the Credit Risk Management (CRM) team in Tokyo, is responsible for managing a diverse portfolio of counterparties and maintaining the local Risk Management Framework. This role involves regulatory reporting, participating in audits, and supporting governance through various management councils.
Responsibilities
- Manage a dedicated portfolio of Corporate and FI counterparties, as well as either real estate or leverage lending.
- Review credit proposals and write credit reports.
- Decide on transactions and risk exposures within personal credit authority.
- Manage risks arising from commercial and investment banking products, including loans, trade finance, and capital markets products (FX, commodity, interest rate, and equity derivatives).
- Ensure portfolio quality and documentation standards are maintained through due diligence, advising business stakeholders, and adhering to risk strategies.
- Participate in internal and external audits, demonstrating knowledge of policies, procedures, systems, and data management.
- Support the remediation of audit issues and provide input for improving work procedures with awareness of regulatory standards.
- Communicate frequently with business and infrastructure stakeholders to guide transaction proposals and enhance holistic risk management.
- Present factual information in a structured, clear, concise, and confident manner.
- Proactively reach out and connect to learn and understand complex transactions and identify key risks.
- Recommend solutions to senior management within the bank's risk appetite.
- Share knowledge and support the development of junior team members.
- Manage transactions independently towards timelines provided by business partners.
- Act as a role model in risk culture and conduct, believing in diversity and inclusion.
- Leverage an integrating environment to draw self-motivation and motivate others.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of credit risk experience.
- Broad product knowhow in both lending and derivatives, preferably within an investment banking environment.
- Experience in structuring complex transactions.
- Understanding of complex risk, potentially gained from involvement in leveraged and structured transactions or real estate financings.
- Good knowledge of documentation and principal risk mitigating documentation techniques.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to relate to people at all levels.
- Japanese native or Japanese native level language qualifications.
- Strong written and verbal English skills.
- At least an Undergraduate Degree.
- Formal credit training, potentially CFA.
