About the Role
The Attorney General is seeking applications for appointment as an Acting Judge, primarily for the Bail Division. This role requires hearing bail applications on short notice, including weekends, public holidays, and during judicial recesses and conferences.
Responsibilities
- Sit in the Bail Division.
- Hear bail applications at short notice, including weekends, public holidays, mid-year recess, annual shutdown period, and during judicial conferences.
- Discharge duties promptly.
- Work under pressure.

- Maintain authority and inspire respect.
- Participate in ongoing judicial education.
- Use, or be willing to learn, modern information technology.
- Sit on weekends, public holidays, during the annual shutdown and during judicial conferences.
Requirements
- Australian lawyers of at least five years' standing, or current or former judicial officers who retired within the last three years.
- Demonstrated high proficiency in a relevant area of law, practiced in the Local Court, Children's Court, or otherwise.
- Address the list of personal and professional qualities for judicial appointments.
- Probity checks will be conducted.
- Applications must be submitted in Word or PDF format.
- Applications must be accompanied by a detailed curriculum vitae.
- Applications must include the names of at least two referees.
- Applications must be lodged electronically.
- Previous applicants must submit a fresh application if they still seek appointment.
