About the Role

The Grade 3-8 Library Assistant will support the daily operations of the Grade 3-8 library, cultivating a positive learning environment for all patrons in keeping with school values. This role is 25 hours per week, with a consistent Monday through Friday schedule.

Responsibilities

• Supervise students using the library during their free time
• Maintain a productive atmosphere for all patrons
• Support the librarians in providing library instruction
• Assist students with locating materials in the library
• Assist the librarians with tasks related to loaning and recollecting library materials
• Support initiatives to ensure that the library is a welcoming and inclusive place for all
• Help students and adults check out materials
• Support the librarian in maintaining a clean, organized learning environment, including reshelving of materials
• Act as a substitute for the librarian during absences or as needed, supervising classes and facilitating activities as directed
• Perform additional duties, possibly including supervision of older students, as assigned by the Librarian or Principal

Requirements

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a diverse, fast-paced, multilingual educational environment
• Must be punctual, collaborative, self-motivated, and excited to interact with students
• Prior experience with school-age children strongly preferred
• Must be eligible to work in the US
