About the Role
The Academic Department Manager (ADM) provides high-level leadership and direction for the Department, managing financial, administrative, and human resources operations. The ADM ensures financial and administrative practices conform to University policies, develops internal procedures, and supports budget management and analysis. This role supervises administrative staff, oversees student affairs and grants administration, and collaborates with the Department Chair on curriculum and strategic planning.
Responsibilities

- Develops and implements internal procedures and protocols.
- Plays a critical leadership role in support of budget management and analysis.
- Supervises administrative staff.
- Oversees student affairs.
- Manages grants, gifts, and endowments.
- Works closely with the chair on issues related to curriculum and course management.
- Performs other miscellaneous activities related to the management of the Department and program.
- Facilitates short and long-range strategic planning and the allocation of financial and budgetary activities.
- Supports the Department Chair regarding the articulation of policies, protocols, and other communications to staff and faculty.
- Serves as the principal administrative liaison to faculty, students, and administrators across departments and offices.
- Cultivates strong relationships with campus affiliates, as well as local and international constituencies.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of 3 years of related experience in an academic department setting or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with grant administration required.
- Strong financial management experience required, including budgeting and forecasting.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Excellent financial management skills.
- Strong staff management skills required, i.e. hiring, supervision, employee evaluation, and salary review.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Proficiency in financial data analysis, planning, and accounting.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to assess priorities and pivot in response to pressing departmental needs.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent computer skills with a strong aptitude for learning new systems.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), Google platform (Gmail, google docs and google sheets), Workday and Zoom or other video conferencing.
- Proven ability to work independently and as a team member.
