About the Role

The User Trail team owns the analytics and observability platform that captures how people use The Trade Desk's products. This event data powers product analytics and an AI-powered internal tool for investigating platform events. The team works closely with other departments to ensure data quality and accessibility, making a significant impact on troubleshooting and decision-making across the company.

Responsibilities

  • Build and improve tools for data exploration, including self-service dashboards and an AI-powered assistant.
  • Own end-to-end feature delivery for the event tracking and data platform, focusing on data accessibility for non-engineering teams.
  • Extend governed access to data for various company departments, managing tradeoffs for self-service usage.
  • Act as a technical expert for system components like client-side SDKs, ingestion pipelines, or data warehouse layers.
  • Partner with support, trading, business, and product teams to understand data needs and translate them into features.
  • Enhance team quality and testing practices through mentorship, code review, and design discussions.
  • Contribute to technical design decisions and shape the evolution of team tools and processes.

Requirements

  • Deep, hands-on experience building and operating backend services or data pipelines at scale.
  • Comfortable owning projects from design through production.
  • Experience with or strong interest in modern data warehouse/lakehouse platforms, event-driven pipelines, or SDK development.
  • Clear communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to be a go-to expert for guidance in an area of expertise.
  • Focus on reliability and correctness, considering edge cases, monitoring, and failure modes.
  • Strong collaboration skills across teams and disciplines.
  • Active role in mentoring and improving colleagues through code review and pairing.
  • Ability to take loosely defined problems and create concrete, well-scoped plans.
  • Capacity to learn quickly and solve complex problems using optimal tools.
  • Inventiveness in finding novel solutions to complex and future challenges.
