About the Role
The Financial Accountant role is a crucial part of the Finance team, working with the Management Accountant and Transactional Finance team to deliver Monthly and Annual Financial results. This role requires a proactive, self-motivated, detail-oriented individual who is willing to expand their skill set across various finance aspects. The scope is broad, focusing on leading Period End reporting, Audit support, Report building, System Testing, Team Mentoring, and strong Commercial Business Partnering with an emphasis on Financial Control.
Responsibilities
- Deliver accurate month-end reporting for Global Touring to shareholders (Flight Centre Travel Group) according to the agreed timetable, including Day 1 and Day 4 reporting, management accounts, HORP, and SUN system uploads.
- Ensure monthly reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, adherence to IFRS accounting standards, and identification of risks/opportunities.
- Collaborate with the Management Accountant and Financial Controller to analyze variances between actual results, forecasts, budgets, and prior year data.
- Deliver monthly, quarterly, and annual local Sales Taxes, CAA, ABTA, and other regulatory returns, including a detailed understanding of TOMS VAT rules.
- Manage cost centre construction and reporting, with a specific focus on overheads.
- Oversee FX accounting and derivative postings.
- Review loan and intercompany accounts, ensuring correct transaction recording and monthly balance agreement.
- Act as a key liaison with external auditors (EY) for Global Touring, managing the year-end audit process and statutory accounts data delivery.
- Identify potential control risks and develop solutions.
- Focus on improving processes within your role, the Finance department, and the wider business.
Requirements
- Qualified accountant with a minimum of 3 years' experience in a high-volume, low-margin business within a listed group.
- Hands-on approach with a keen eye for detail and a passion for accounting accuracy.
- Practical experience in completing complex reconciliations.
- Excellence in Excel with a systems-oriented mindset, capable of providing data to the team and business.
- Ability to explain complex accounting concepts clearly and straightforwardly.
- Good knowledge of accounting best practices and IFRS.
- Experience working within a tour operator and knowledge of FX accounting are advantageous.
- Proactive in addressing issues and driving continuous process improvements.
- Experience managing stakeholders across various time zones.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Problem-solver with a positive, can-do attitude.
- Excellent communicator and team player with a high level of emotional intelligence.
- Demonstrated experience using AI tools to enhance efficiency, problem-solving, and work quality is an advantage.
