About the Role
As an Assistant Merchant at Sephora Canada, you will support brand strategies, curate assortments, and discover emerging brands. This role involves partnering with beauty brands to bring sought-after products and trends to Canadians, working alongside a team passionate about beauty and client experiences.
Responsibilities
- Maintain engaging and accurate product content, including descriptions, pricing, and assortment updates.
- Support Q&A content across website, mobile app, and email channels to create seamless client experiences.
- Review digital and marketing proofs for accuracy, consistency, and quality.
- Generate performance reports and identify opportunities to drive business growth using data and insights.
- Analyze sales trends, category performance, and client behavior to support strategic business decisions.
- Execute brand and product strategies in partnership with the Merchant.
- Support negotiations with vendors for samples, testers, RTVs, and damaged products.
- Identify emerging trends, brands, and opportunities to elevate the assortment and fuel category growth.
- Support visual merchandising strategies, planograms, and brand presentations to enhance in-store discovery.
- Assist in executing 360° marketing and merchandising strategies for product launches.
- Manage key operational processes including SKU creation, product maintenance, invoice review support, and markdown management.
- Support inventory management and sales forecasting initiatives by collaborating with Planning, DotCa, and Sephora US partners.
- Coordinate samples, gratis, and product requests while fostering relationships with brand partners.
- Provide timely solutions and guidance to field teams on category-related inquiries.
- Manage reporting, calendar planning, market preparation, brand meetings, and cross-functional administrative support.
- Plan, coordinate, and execute brand activations and category initiatives.
Requirements
- 2–3 years of experience in a retail buying, merchandising, or planning role, ideally within a fast-paced, client-focused environment.
- A passion for product and beauty, paired with a strong understanding of consumer trends, behaviours, and what inspires clients.
- Curiosity, ownership, and a proactive mindset, with a willingness to challenge the status quo and drive meaningful results.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to turn insights into action and opportunities into outcomes.
- An entrepreneurial spirit that thrives in a dynamic environment and values cross-functional collaboration.
- Proven negotiation and relationship-building capabilities that foster successful partnerships with brands and vendors.
- Confidence navigating technology and merchant systems.
- A solid understanding of the Canadian retail landscape and the vendor ecosystem that supports it.
Skills
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Knowledge of the Canadian beauty industry, including Health Canada regulations and product compliance requirements (asset).
- Bilingualism in French and English (written and spoken) (asset).
