About the Role

This is a two-year, full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate position within the Theoretical Physics group, focusing on the Royal Society-funded project S-matrix Bootstrap: a theoretical collider for particle physics. The role involves conducting original research, developing innovative directions, publishing findings, and contributing to the department's research culture.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct original research in conformal bootstrap, semidefinite programming, and related optimisation problems in theoretical physics.
  • Develop innovative directions connected with the Royal Society-funded S-matrix Bootstrap project, including practical applications of SDPB.
  • Contribute to seminars and conferences.
  • Assist with research student supervision where appropriate.
  • Publish and present high-quality research.
  • Build external collaborations.
  • Contribute positively to the Department’s collegial and interdisciplinary research culture.

Requirements

  • PhD awarded, or a PhD thesis submitted, in Theoretical Physics, Mathematics or a closely related discipline.
  • Knowledge of semidefinite programming methods.
  • Practical experience using SDPB.
  • Expertise in one or more relevant areas such as conformal field theory, conformal bootstrap, scattering amplitudes, S-matrix bootstrap or related mathematical physics.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to contribute positively to an inclusive research environment.
