About the Role

The CUNY Mexican Studies Institute (MSI) is seeking a creative, bilingual Graphic Designer & Illustrator to manage the Institute's visual identity and support its academic, cultural, and community-based initiatives. This role involves conceptualizing and producing visual materials for print and digital platforms to engage diverse audiences and strengthen the Institute's public presence.

Responsibilities

  • Design visual content for social media, newsletters, and digital campaigns.
  • Create promotional materials including flyers, posters, banners, and invitations for events and programs.
  • Maintain and update website visual content and assist with digital layout design.
  • Develop graphic materials for educational programs, conferences, and research projects.
  • Support visual production for the New York City International Book Fair (FILNYC) and other cultural events.
  • Design editorial materials such as brochures, reports, and catalogs.
  • Produce original illustrations and visual concepts that align with the Institute's mission.
  • Collaborate with faculty, students, artists, and community organizations.
  • Prepare print-ready files and ensure brand consistency across all platforms.
  • Assist in maintaining the Institute's overall visual identity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Illustration, Visual Communications, Fine Arts, Digital Media, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in graphic design, illustration, or creative production.
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
  • Experience designing for both print and digital platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of typography, branding, and layout design.
  • Experience with website content management systems like WordPress or Squarespace.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple deadlines.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as required.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating excellence in design and visual storytelling.
