About the Role
The Director of Nursing is responsible for the daily supervision of nursing, laboratory, medical, radiology, and referral staff, ensuring patients receive proper care and provider orders are executed. This role coordinates quality assurance, risk management, and reporting duties, reporting directly to the Medical Services Director.
Responsibilities
- Performs daily supervision of nurses, laboratory, medical, radiology and referral staff.
- Evaluates performance and initiates or recommends personnel actions.
- Trains, orients and assigns all staff under supervision.
- Performs duties of supervised staff during acute staff shortages.
- Develops, updates, implements and maintains appropriate policies and procedures.
- Helps develop goals and objectives for Medical Units in conjunction with SNHS planning.
- Completes all required management reports.
- Coordinates program compliance with tribal, local, state and federal regulations.
- Advises and assists health system staff in developing quality indicators and monitoring functions for the CQI committee.
- Collects and organizes data for quality care status reports.
- Assists in the establishment and implementation of interdisciplinary quality improvement teams.
- Helps staff understand and utilize CQI concepts through in-services.
- Coordinates infection control programs within the SNHS.
- Assists in the preparation of the annual medical unit budget process.
- Encourages staff development and professional growth.
- Maintains administrative authority, responsibility and accountability for charting, documentation of care, medications, and treatments by nurses.
- Manages and oversees employee health for the SNHS.
- Attends all mandatory staff meetings and in-services.
- Follows all policies of the SNHS.
- Leads nursing staff in delivering excellent patient care and quality support to medical staff.
- Ensures nurses are properly certified and abide by SNHS standards of care and state/federal laws.
- Oversees nurses, laboratory, medical, radiology and referral staff at CTHC and LRJHC.
- Maintains patient files according to program guidelines and the Privacy Act of 1974.
- Maintains a neat and orderly work area.
- Assists with any necessary areas within the Department.
- Facilitates and promotes PCMH policies and guidelines with providers and nurses.
Requirements
- Must have a current New York State Registered Nurse license.
- Minimum of three (3) years nursing experience required.
- Minimum of two (2) years supervisory experience required.
- Background related to quality improvement activities required.
- Strong interpersonal skills required.
- Self-motivation required.
- Must be able to interact with providers, nurses, other staff, patients and family members.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
- Background check may be required.
