About the Role
As a Mobile Field Technician, you operate independently across a regional territory, servicing multiple rental centres and customer job sites. You are the technician customers trust and the expert who keeps the fleet rental-ready. You will be on the road, in the field, and on active job sites — diagnosing and repairing a wide variety of equipment in real-world conditions, working independently, and representing the company professionally in every interaction.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and small engine issues to maintain rental readiness
- Perform preventive maintenance and inspections
- Ensure all equipment meets safety and quality standards before returning to rental service
- Respond to emergency service calls with urgency
- Perform on-site repairs at customer job sites to minimize downtime and protect project timelines
- Rotate across assigned rental centres on a scheduled and as-needed basis to support fleet readiness
- Coordinate effectively with rental centre colleagues
- Proactively identify equipment requiring significant attention and clearly communicate recommendations
- Act as the face of OnSite Rentals’ professional, reliable, and solution-focused approach
- Communicate clearly with customers about repair status, expected completion, and next steps
- Build trust through responsiveness and consistent follow-through that drives repeat business
- Maintain your service vehicle, tools, and parts inventory to a high standard
- Complete accurate and timely work orders and service documentation using the company’s technology platform
- Conduct a daily pre-trip vehicle inspection and maintain compliance with all transportation requirements
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures
- Handle fuels, fluids, and materials safely and responsibly
Requirements
- 3+ years of hands-on equipment repair experience in a rental, construction, agriculture, or heavy trades environment
- Strong working knowledge of hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and small engine diagnosis and repair
- Demonstrated experience with compact construction equipment — mini-excavators, skid steers, trenchers, or similar
- Experience with general tools and outdoor power equipment (chainsaws, compactors, generators, pressure washers, etc.)
- Ability to diagnose faults and perform repairs independently in the field with limited supervision
- Basic computer and mobile device proficiency for work order management and documentation
- Valid Ontario driver’s licence (G class minimum) with a clean driver’s abstract
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work comfortably in physically demanding, outdoor, and active job-site environments
- Self-directed — you manage your day, your territory, and your priorities
- Diagnostically strong — you troubleshoot methodically and get it right the first time
- Reliable and punctual — rental centres and customers are counting on you
- Professional in the field — you represent the company and you take that seriously
