About the Role

As a Graduate Structural Engineer, you will assist senior engineers and the wider team in the design process to gain a detailed working knowledge of all parts of the industry. You will carry out detailed design and calculations as directed, and assist in preparing specifications, reports, and drawings. You will also oversee project site works, snagging, and testing. This role is within a 100% employee-owned organization that supports career advancement and aspirations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Senior Engineers with detailed design tasks and drawing production.
  • Develop an understanding of different building materials and design techniques.
  • Carry out detailed design calculations and gain a full understanding of computer design packages.
  • Maintain a Continuing Professional Development diary to assist in obtaining appropriate qualifications.
  • Develop an understanding of appropriate Legislation Standards, Building Regulations, and Codes of Practice.
  • Learn and understand design techniques and develop awareness of other design disciplines.
  • Maintain a training log on a daily basis, recording achievements and experience.
  • Attend appropriate and relevant site visits and meetings.
  • Attend relevant training as required by the practice to achieve Chartered status.
  • Attend and arrange Lunchtime CPDs and Knowledge Sharing sessions.
  • Assist in maintaining QA systems on projects.
  • Oversee project site works snagging and testing as and when directed.

Requirements

  • Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or a relevant subject.
  • Good IT knowledge and experience with Microsoft Packages.
  • Clear, concise, professional, and personable communication with clients, colleagues, and suppliers.
  • Ability to project a positive and professional attitude at all times.
  • Ability to establish rapport and good working relationships within the project team and with clients.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, collaboratively and cooperatively.
  • Personable and a ‘can do’ attitude with resource management experience.
