About the Role

This role provides medical and clinical support services, focusing on anesthesia duties such as administering anesthesia, monitoring patients, and managing critical care. It also involves maintaining anesthesia equipment and managing supply inventory within a 'hands-on' environment, suitable for entry-level candidates with routine tasks and close supervision.

Responsibilities

• Supports operating rooms with anesthesia and physiological monitoring equipment.
• Cleans and maintains all anesthesia equipment.
• Orders, stocks, distributes, and maintains inventory of anesthesia supplies.
• Assists anesthesiologists and nursing staff with direct patient care, including transfers, equipment preparation, intubations, and regional anesthesia.
• Changes soda-lime containers according to guidelines.
• Sets up I.V. solutions, arterial lines, and equipment for anesthesiologists.
• Orders daily anesthesia supplies and special equipment.
• Reports equipment malfunctions and assumes responsibility for service maintenance and records.
• Checks operational activity of battery-run equipment in Anesthesia.
• Conducts weekly inventory to maintain supply levels and prepares orders.
• Participates in infection control by cleaning anesthesia equipment and maintaining a neat workroom.
• Assists secretary with clerical duties at the control desk.
• Maintains Anesthesia and Operating Room Library and keeps catalog file up to date.
• Conducts routine checks of emergency and anesthesia carts, supplying them as needed.
• Checks inventory against established listings, removing outdated items and correcting deficiencies.
• Sets up and calibrates invasive monitor transducers.
• Operates Glucometer when necessary.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• One (1) year of related experience in Surgical Services, Operating Room, or PACU.
• Ability to speak and hear effectively.
• Ability to meet telephone and customer service standards.
• Knowledge of sterile technique.
• Ability to communicate accurately, quickly, and audibly in English.
• Ability to accurately maintain written records.
• Basic familiarity with computers and ability to navigate web-based applications.
• Knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology of the cardiopulmonary systems and infection control.
• Maintains sensitivity, maturity, and flexibility in coping with difficult situations.
• Ability to work with staff of all levels.
• Regularly lifts, reaches, carries, pushes, and pulls 40-50 lbs or more.
• Regularly stands/sits for eight (8) hours or length of assignment.
• Ability to differentiate objects by touch.
• Ability to perceive sounds.
• Clarity of both near and far vision.
• Exposure to infectious disease and possible carcinogenic chemicals.
• Exposure of blood-borne pathogens.
• Ability to distinguish color.
