About the Role

The Substance Abuse Counselor (SAC) is responsible for delivering and implementing long-term supervision, support, and clinical services to adolescents with co-occurring and mental health problems. The SAC is a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team.

Responsibilities

  • Perform initial and ongoing screening of residents and their property according to unit procedures.
  • Facilitate group counseling sessions professionally, ethically, and compassionately, documenting client progress via group notes.
  • Supervise clients during self-medication administration.
  • Communicate pertinent information, incidents, and emergencies through the appropriate channels, including the SAC communication log, incident reports, and to the 24-hour on-call supervisor.
  • Provide crisis interventions and follow-up, documenting incidents, accidents, and elopements.
  • Oversee and manage the client population in facilitating the daily house schedule.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 1 year of experience working with clients with substance abuse disorders.
  • 1 year of experience working with adolescents with co-occurring and mental health problems.
  • 1 year of experience working in an OASAS funded facility is a plus.
  • Commitment to providing quality services and outcome-driven performance measures.
  • Excellent organizational management skills with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performance clinicians, and set/achieve program objectives.
  • Strong networking and public relations skills with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders, populations, and cultures.
  • Action-oriented, adaptable, and innovative approach to program planning.
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.
