About the Role

We are hiring a forward-deployed software engineer to be the technical owner of our health plan Finance and Accounting (F&A) platform. This role sits at the intersection of engineering and F&A operations, working directly with the people who use the software. You will build AI agents to handle support and billing questions and automate manual processes. You will be the single technical point of responsibility for this service, partnering with F&A and product stakeholders to translate workflows into software, set architectural direction, and own production.

Responsibilities

Own the codebase, including code review, architectural decisions, and quality bar.
Develop and own internal tooling, prompts, skills, and evaluations to enhance AI leverage.
Design and ship AI agents to handle support and billing issues and automate manual F&A processes.
Own data pipelines, transformations, reconciliation, and data trustworthiness.
Ensure financial correctness of the platform's output through logic and safeguards.
Manage production infrastructure, including cloud deployment, observability, on-call, incident response, and cost.
Handle sensitive data (PHI and financial information) responsibly with built-in data privacy.
Monitor and report on operational metrics, including platform performance and data reconciliation.
Manage stakeholder relationships, translating F&A pain points into software requirements and building trust.
Co-own the product roadmap with F&A and product stakeholders, sequencing work and proposing alternatives.
Shape the technical strategy for the platform surface area.
Manage integrations with internal services and third-party financial systems.
Develop expertise in health-plan finance workflows within 90 days.

Requirements

5+ years of experience shipping production software.
Real fluency in Python and TypeScript.
Strong SQL and relational database fundamentals, including query plan analysis and migration safety.
Experience building data-intensive applications with ETL/sync pipelines.
A correctness mindset, ensuring output is accurate and verifiable.
Strong systems thinking and ability to architect services and identify failure modes.
Production cloud experience (AWS, GCP, or equivalent) and on-call experience.
Comfort working directly with non-technical stakeholders.
Interest in working with financial data and the associated problem space.
Sharp written communication skills for prompts, specs, and PR descriptions.
Experience using AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, or equivalent) as a primary development tool.
Ability to structure prompts, manage subagents, and prevent AI output drift.
Discipline to review every AI-generated diff.
Experience building tooling to enhance AI effectiveness.
A portfolio of AI-assisted work is strongly preferred.
Experience as the single owner of a non-trivial production service is strongly preferred.
Experience with data-intensive or financial systems (data platforms, analytics, billing, payments, reporting) is strongly preferred.
