About the Role

Imogen Roche Foundation, Inc. is seeking kind, talented, and energetic individuals with education or childcare experience to provide nurturing instruction to elementary school students in NYC public schools. Our afterschool programs focus on social and emotional learning, offering choice-based activities that empower students and foster compassion, understanding, and kindness. Teaching Assistants are crucial in setting the emotional tone, providing consistency, and ensuring children feel connected and safe.

Responsibilities

  • Greet students during snack time and take attendance.
  • Oversee dismissal and student transitions between activities and end-of-day.
  • Collaborate with teachers to ensure a safe environment for children.
  • Support individualized child development through assessments and education plan implementation, in conjunction with teachers and specialists.
  • Maintain open communication with the program director, activity specialists, and other staff.
  • Prepare and implement daily activities with Activity Specialists and Education Specialists.

Requirements

  • Previous successful experience working with children, preferably in an after-school program, with excellent job references.
  • 2+ years of classroom experience or current pursuit of a degree in education or a related field is preferred.
  • Excellent academic skills and practical subject matter experience; professional experience is a plus.
  • Ability to foster an environment that encourages creative thinking, verbal communication, problem-solving, independent exploration, and self-confidence.
  • Capacity to synthesize experiences working with children.
  • Ability to manage time and effort to fulfill regular duties and handle occasional emergencies.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
