About the Role

We are seeking a part-time teacher to lead inventive theater classes for elementary school children after school, in one or more of the following disciplines: improv, devised playmaking, chorus, and musical theater. Instructors will strengthen and support students’ unique, creative voices in a simultaneously safe and brave space. Scheduled hours are from 2:30 PM to 5:00 PM when NYC public schools are in session.

Responsibilities

  • Implements course curriculum, and assists with its development
  • Works with teaching assistant to create lesson plans in accordance with course curriculum
  • Requests supplies from Site Supervisor well in advance of class sessions
  • Leads classes with school-age children
  • Supervises children during transitions
  • Supervises teaching assistants
  • Communicates regularly with Site Supervisor and/or Director about student progress
  • Plans, coordinates and oversees culminating events at the end of each cycle

Requirements

  • Subject-matter expertise in a field consistent with the subject taught
  • Patient, kind and friendly
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to effectively manage and correct conduct and performance of adults and children
  • Able to manage and give priority to multiple tasks
  • Exhibits creativity and innovativeness working in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to use own initiative, sound judgment, tact and diplomacy
