About the Role

We are seeking a part-time teacher to lead inventive theater classes for elementary school children after school, in one or more of the following disciplines: improv, devised playmaking, chorus, and musical theater. Instructors will strengthen and support students’ unique, creative voices in a simultaneously safe and brave space. Scheduled hours are from 2:30 PM to 5:00 PM when NYC public schools are in session.

Responsibilities

Implements course curriculum, and assists with its development
Works with teaching assistant to create lesson plans in accordance with course curriculum
Requests supplies from Site Supervisor well in advance of class sessions
Leads classes with school-age children
Supervises children during transitions
Supervises teaching assistants
Communicates regularly with Site Supervisor and/or Director about student progress
Plans, coordinates and oversees culminating events at the end of each cycle

Requirements

Subject-matter expertise in a field consistent with the subject taught
Patient, kind and friendly
Strong leadership skills and the ability to effectively manage and correct conduct and performance of adults and children
Able to manage and give priority to multiple tasks
Exhibits creativity and innovativeness working in a fast-paced environment
Able to use own initiative, sound judgment, tact and diplomacy
