About the Role

The Family Peer Support Specialist provides support, education, systems navigation, and advocacy to families of individuals with behavioral health challenges. This role requires lived experience as a parent or caregiver to a child with behavioral health needs and involves working directly with families in Worcester County.

Responsibilities

• Provide support, guidance, and education to parents and caregivers navigating behavioral health, social, legal, and educational systems.
• Conduct strengths-based, non-judgmental assessments to help families identify needs and develop action plans.
• Facilitate family engagement opportunities to promote natural support networks.
• Educate families on community resources and their rights within various systems.
• Advocate for parents and caregivers with key stakeholders to ensure needs are met.
• Support parents in planning, implementing, and evaluating care or service plans.
• Facilitate educational workshops on behavioral health topics.
• Build and maintain partnerships with behavioral health agencies, schools, and service providers.
• Act as an ambassador to raise awareness about MCF programs.
• Maintain accurate and timely service documentation.
• Participate in professional growth and stay informed on emerging issues in family peer support.
• Represent MCF on committees, commissions, and boards to provide a family voice in policy discussions.
• Contribute to a collaborative peer community.

Requirements

• Personal, lived experience as a parent or primary caregiver to a child with mental health challenges in the public school system.
• Experience with IEPs and 504 plans.
• Must reside in Worcester County.
• Current Maryland driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle.
• Ability to pass a background check.
• Willingness to travel within the state.
