About the Role
The Outpatient Behavioral Health Clinical Psychologist functions as a Clinical Psychologist under the supervision of the Director of Psychology at the Debra Simon Center. The role involves diagnosing and treating behavioral health disorders and psychological adjustment issues within an interdisciplinary healthcare team, optimizing whole-person health and wellness. The psychologist will participate in all phases of the outpatient process, deliver evidence-based treatments, and train/supervise junior staff and trainees. This position offers potential for professional growth as treatment tracks and programming are developed.
Responsibilities
- Assumes the duties and responsibilities of a Psychologist as prescribed by training and standards, and delineated by the medical staff appointment.
- Performs intake assessments, develops and updates treatment plans, and provides empirically-based treatment in individual, family, and group modalities.
- Works with families and community resources to provide patient support.
- Supervises trainees and less experienced staff.
- Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team and attends disposition and other staff meetings.
- Evaluates patients according to department policies/procedures and follows standards of practice for mental health disorders.
- Conducts diagnostic evaluations and provides diagnoses from the Diagnostic Statistical Manual, supported by evaluation findings.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills in the use and interpretation of brief assessment tools and subsequent integration into diagnostic impressions.
- Provides effective, evidence-based treatment for individuals, couples, families, and groups.
- Evaluates treatment effectiveness with periodic reassessment using outcome-driven data and modifies treatment accordingly.
- Communicates changes in treatment plans with team, supervisor, and patient, and records changes based on services provided.
- Maintains productivity and treatment guidelines based on departmental standards.
- Functions as a consultant in the Department of Psychiatry in the areas of Behavioral Health.
- Provides behavioral health consultations within the medical center.
- Serves as a resource and liaison to departments and community agencies seeking mental health information.
- Participates in professional and community educational conferences and seminars.
- Provides program services in accordance with HUMC policy and procedures, the Joint Commission, and the New Jersey Board of Psychological Examiners.
- Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational and Managerial Competencies.
- Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
- Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Requirements
- Doctoral degree from APA-accredited program in Clinical Psychology (PhD or PsyD).
- Completion of APA-approved internship in Adult Clinical and/or Pediatric Psychology.
- Proficient in evidence-based treatments (i.e. CBT, ACT, DBT, etc.).
- Minimum 5 years related clinical experience serving patients across the mental health and work-related spectrum.
- Experience providing clinical training and supervision, and a commitment to training the next generation of psychologists.
- Sensitivity to multiculturalism and diversity.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Google Suite platforms.
