About the Role
This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military experience to a 3M career. As a Product Development Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of next-generation electromechanical systems for cable preparation and installation platforms.
- Design analog, digital and mixed-signal circuits, including sensor signal conditioning and data-acquisition front ends.
- Design power electronics and power-distribution circuits, including motor-drive, DC-DC and protection circuitry.
- Integrate embedded processors/microcontrollers, connectivity and industrial I/O (e.g., EtherCAT) into board-level designs.
- Select and specify electronic components, balancing performance, cost, availability, and manufacturability.
- Build, bring up and debug prototypes using lab instrumentation (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, DAQ), iterating toward reliable field-ready hardware.
- Create schematic designs and multilayer PCB layouts for control, power, sensor-interface and communication boards.
- Design for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC/EMI), signal integrity and power integrity, and support regulatory compliance (CE, UL, FCC).
- Interact with regulatory teams to ensure compliance with applicable standards.
- Develop hardware documentation, including schematics, BOMs, fabrication/assembly packages, and design records.
- Collaborate closely with firmware, software, mechanical and systems engineers, and with manufacturing, suppliers, contract manufacturers and PCB fabricators, to scale designs into production.
- Drive product architecture, feasibility studies, prototyping, and engineering verification activities.
- Generate intellectual property positions, including invention submissions, patents and 3M trade secrets.
- Communicate tests and other program results to internal and external stakeholders.
- Drive the development and commercialization of products to efficiently, reliably and sustainably deliver energy to customers around the world.
- Comply with corporate policies, procedures and security standards while performing assigned duties.
- Contribute to a strong Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) culture by following safety policies, identifying hazards, and engaging in continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering or related engineering discipline completed and verified prior to start from an accredited institution.
- Three (3) or more years’ experience designing electronic hardware from concept through prototype and production, with at least 3 years in hardware product development.
- Three (3) or more years’ experience with schematic capture and PCB layout tools such as Altium, OrCAD/Cadence, or KiCad, including component selection and hardware documentation.
- Three (3) or more years’ experience with analog, digital, and/or power circuit design, as well as hardware bring-up, debugging, and validation using lab instrumentation.
- Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).
