About the Role

This role focuses on preventing workplace accidents and promoting health and safety awareness and education. It involves performing Associate Safety related duties, operating in a hands-on environment, and delivering support services under supervision. This is an entry-level position requiring little prior experience, with routine tasks performed under close supervision.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic public safety and security duties.
• Conduct internal and external patrols of all facilities and grounds.
• Respond to and report on routine and emergency calls for service, building alarms, and restraint of violent patients/visitors.
• Monitor assigned areas for suspicious activity and screen vendors and visitors.
• Provide escorts to patients, visitors, and staff.
• Identify security vulnerabilities, safety hazards, and policy violations, taking immediate corrective action or collaborating with other departments for resolution.
• Report deficiencies and document incidents.
• Take appropriate actions during patient crisis interventions using least invasive measures.
• Ensure all employees and appropriate community members possess and display Hospital identification badges.
• Engage individuals without visible identification courteously.
• Grant access to locked areas to authorized staff and restrict access to unauthorized individuals.
• Maintain composure under stressful circumstances using de-escalation strategies.
• Provide excellent customer service to patients, visitors, and staff.
• Participate in investigations, conduct interviews, review video, prepare case files, and secure evidence.
• Assist with hospital emergencies and disasters, including crowd control and evacuations.
• Identify and resolve problems, issues, concerns, or conflicts impartially.
• Complete accurate written incident reports.
• Enlist supervisor support or assistance from fellow officers when needed.
• Maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues.
• Complete all required training.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Valid state-issued driver’s license.
• Must successfully obtain IAHSS basic certification as a Healthcare Security Officer within 1 year of hire.
• Frequent standing and walking with the ability to stand and/or walk for eight (8) hours.
• Climb multiple flights of stairs.
• Lift fifty (50) pounds alone.
• Able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
• Some exposure to the elements during regular rounds.
• Ability to work long, irregular, and odd hours, including unanticipated overtime and hold overs.
• Possibility of injury due to eviction of unauthorized persons or restraint of violent patients.
• Exposure to hazardous material and radioactive substances.
• Frequent contact with patients, visitors, and employees.
• Able to work in confined or open environments.
• Able to work independently or in a team environment.
• Proficient in communicating, reading, and writing in English.
• Basic Computer Skills required.
• Ability to multi-task and meet established deadlines.
• Ability to assess potentially dangerous situations quickly, make sound decisions, and take appropriate action.
