About the Role
Join a 65-year-old, family-owned leader in irrigation and landscaping seeking an experienced Lead Fleet Mechanic. This hands-on leadership role involves diagnosing complex issues, performing major repairs, and ensuring fleet reliability. Opportunity to perform New York State vehicle inspections is available.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on gasoline and diesel vehicles, trailers, small engines, and equipment.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and drivetrain issues using advanced diagnostic equipment and OEM software.
- Complete major repairs including engine rebuilds, transmission repairs, hydraulic system overhauls, and component replacements.
- Respond to emergency field repairs and job-site breakdowns.
- Prioritize multiple repair requests while minimizing equipment downtime.
- Maintain accurate service records, repair documentation, and parts inventory.
- Perform New York State annual safety and emissions inspections once licensed.
- Work independently while coordinating closely with operations and field teams.
Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on experience as a fleet, diesel, automotive, heavy equipment, or machinery mechanic.
- Strong experience servicing both gasoline and diesel engines.
- Advanced troubleshooting skills involving electrical systems, hydraulics, drivetrains, and engine diagnostics.
- Experience using scan tools, multimeters, pressure gauges, and diagnostic software.
- Willingness to work overtime and respond to emergency repairs during peak seasons.
