About the Role

Advance Practice Providers (APPs) will join the Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition to assist with IP GI Consult Service coverage at East Region Hospitals. APPs will manage a wide variety of GI conditions and diagnoses. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, comfortable working with autonomy, functions well within a multi-disciplinary team, and is flexible. This role involves 4-10 hour shifts (7 AM-5 PM) with rotating holiday and weekend coverage.

Responsibilities

Conducts thorough medical histories and performs physical examinations.
Initiates appropriate lab, radiology, and other diagnostic tests.
Scrutinizes lab data to establish patient health status and develop diagnoses and treatment plans.
Performs and interprets common laboratory, radiologic, and cardiographic procedures.
Performs routine and specialized procedures as credentialed.
May prescribe and monitor medications as allowed by license and policy.
Educates patients on diseases, treatments, and potential side effects.
Participates in medical team rounds and collaborates with healthcare team members.
Refers patients to specialists for consultation or specialized treatment.
Ensures continuity of care by serving as a liaison between patients and the care team.
Participates in quality monitoring through record review and treatment plan analysis.
Facilitates appropriate length of stay, discharge planning, and compliance with regulatory standards.
Supports professional development of the healthcare team.
Promotes translation of evidence-based practices, guidelines, and research.
May conduct research studies, assist in data collection and analysis.
May serve as a clinical preceptor for students and onboard new caregivers.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Related clinical experience preferred.
Ability to walk and stand for long periods.
Manual and finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination.
Requires corrected vision and hearing to a normal range.
Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds.
May require exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Must obtain an annual influenza vaccination or obtain an approved exemption.

Education Level

MSN required upon hire or within 3 years for external/internal hires moving from non-APRN to APRN role (effective 05/01/2014).
Graduate of an accredited APRN program.
Master’s Degree required upon hire for neonatal care service area.
Graduate of an A.R.C. approved Physician Assistant Program.
Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies and/or higher degree obtained from a program recognized by their practicing states Licensing Board.
