About the Role

The Senior Product Owner serves as the customer proxy to the Agile team, making final decisions on priority, business value, and functionality. This role analyzes complex business processes, defines integrated user stories, and monitors metrics to improve quality and verify business value. The Senior Product Owner works directly with one to two Agile teams, potentially as part of a Scaled Agile Release Train or on independent teams.

Responsibilities

  • Supports one to two Agile Scrum teams on initiatives of medium to large complexity.
  • Owns, defines, and prioritizes the team backlog, establishes story acceptance criteria, and drives content via prioritized user stories.
  • Obtains customer validation and accepts stories, ensuring the solution addresses overall program priorities.
  • Acts as a thought leader in Scrum ceremonies, ensuring Scrum Teams adhere to Scrum values and fostering continuous improvement.
  • Facilitates Product Backlog Refinement, including reviewing and updating backlog item definitions, developing acceptance criteria and value statements.
  • Analyzes ways to split backlog items into smaller chunks of incremental value.
  • Helps inform the enablers required to support new features and capabilities.
  • Establishes capacity allocation for the team.
  • Builds customer and user insights into all stages of the Scrum planning and execution process.
  • Ensures continuous validation of stories with Customers and business users.
  • Proactively analyzes metrics and recommends product changes based on feedback.
  • Inspires and motivates team members to constructively challenge each other, foster ownership, and advocate for long-term decisions.
  • Builds a trusting and safe environment within the team, with customers, and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborates with Product Managers and other Senior Product Owners to ensure Stories align with program value, goals, and objectives.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years’ experience as a Product Owner or similar role.
  • Three years’ experience within the Commercial or Personal insurance industry.
  • Knowledge of policy administration systems and policy lifecycle processes.
  • Proven experience in rating and issuance of policies preferred.
  • Multiline Property & Casualty (P&C) experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of National Accounts Property and Middle Market Property underwriting.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Typically a minimum of five years as a Product Owner or equivalent role implementing technology enhancements to policy administration or underwriting systems.
  • Experience with insurance products.
  • Successful track record with Agile methodologies.
  • Strong expertise in Large Property and Middle Market Property underwriting.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and experience evaluating, piloting, or scaling AI-enabled capabilities to solve business problems and improve user experiences.

Salary/Compensations

  • $72,000 to $141,000 annually
