About the Role
The FP&A team is central to Trainline's financial intelligence, translating complex business dynamics into clear financial narratives and actionable insights. This role is foundational to the team's ambition to build in-house capability to own the FP&A platform end-to-end, automating reporting, enabling self-service, and freeing analysts for higher-value insight.
Responsibilities
- Own the Pigment FP&A platform as Trainline's named internal expert, responsible for model architecture, governance, version control, and day-to-day maintenance.
- Build and maintain Pigment models supporting the full planning and reporting cycle, including budget, forecast, monthly close commentary, MBR/QBR packs, and ad-hoc analysis.
- Automate reporting workflows currently built manually in Excel or PowerPoint to improve efficiency.
- Design self-service tools for Commercial Finance business partners to conduct scenario analysis independently.
- Stay current with Pigment's feature roadmap, identifying and leading the rollout of new functionality.
- Partner with Data and Engineering teams to ensure clean data flows into Pigment.
- Communicate clearly with non-technical Finance stakeholders about model functionality and timelines.
- Document and improve model governance standards, including change control, testing, data validation, and audit trails.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience with Pigment, Anaplan, Adaptive Insights, or a comparable EPM or planning platform, with a track record of building models.
- Strong technical systems skills, including data structures, formula logic, dimension hierarchies, and model architecture.
- Ability to translate business requirements into platform solutions.
- Clear, confident communication skills for explaining complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Methodical, detail-oriented approach with a commitment to governance standards and documentation.
- Ideally, FP&A or commercial finance experience, or systems consulting experience within a finance team.
- Helpful experience automating reporting workflows, or familiarity with data integration and ETL concepts.
- Experience from a high-growth technology business, marketplace, or consumer-facing environment is a plus.
