About the Role

The Field Specialist will oversee construction for the Step-up Substation and Operations, Maintenance and Service Facility for the Ontario Line transit project. This role involves monitoring technical compliance, managing stakeholder interfaces, and ensuring safety and quality standards are met in a fast-paced, large-scale infrastructure environment.

Responsibilities

• Monitor contractor activities to ensure compliance with technical requirements.
• Prioritize safety and maintain a safe workplace environment.
• Review contractor documentation including risk assessments, method statements, and inspection plans.
• Attend inspections on behalf of Metrolinx.
• Monitor contractor assurance activities and resolve non-conforming items.
• Assist superintendents and contractors in planning construction methods and procedures.
• Coordinate and resolve engineering or construction problems.
• Interpret design engineering drawings.
• Review design drawings, vendor/contractor drawings, and installation instructions.
• Track daily quantities for commodities reporting.
• Review field change notices, extra work orders, and back charge notices.
• Implement project control tools on-site.
• Assist in cost estimate preparation and review bills of materials.
• Prepare and maintain daily reports.
• Review updated contractor schedules.
• Provide input on constructability and lessons learned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical discipline, or equivalent field experience.
• Minimum 5–7 years of relevant experience in infrastructure or transit construction.
• Experience in construction supervision or field engineering on large-scale infrastructure projects.
• Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and quality standards.
• Strong focus on safety.
• Proficiency in interpreting architectural and engineering drawings.
• Effective communication and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office and Bluebeam.
• Awareness of environmental compliance and industry quality standards.
