About the Role

The Dean, Physical Therapy provides academic leadership and administrative oversight for all Physical Therapy (PT) programs, including resident and flex options, and entry-level program directors across all USAHS campuses. This role promotes academic excellence and growth of PT programs by utilizing internal and external programmatic data, ensuring consistency across campuses and delivery methods. The Dean assists program directors with outcome assessment, accreditation reporting, faculty development, and curricular improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Develops a strategic plan for all PT programs focusing on growth and quality improvement goals.
  • Serves as spokesperson for innovative PT program strategies to position USAHS as a leader.
  • Collaborates with marketing, university representatives, and admissions to meet enrollment goals.
  • Leads faculty meetings and retreats, assisting program directors with faculty development and student misconduct issues.
  • Leads recruitment, training, and evaluation of new PT program directors.
  • Oversees the faculty performance evaluation process, ensuring consistency and faculty development.
  • Monitors equity in faculty and program director workload.
  • Supervises the orientation and development of new PT program directors and assistant directors.
  • Examines resource use and works with program directors for resource allocation and sharing.
  • Coordinates policy revision/development between program directors and the Chief Academic Officer.
  • Assures the clinical services office meets program needs.
  • Coordinates resource procurement and management between program directors and the Chief Academic Officer.
  • Develops annual budgets and expenses for areas of responsibility.
  • Stays up-to-date with CAPTE standards and ensures accreditation reports are completed.
  • Coordinates programmatic (re)accreditation for new programs/locations.
  • Assures adherence to all standards and regulatory requirements with Accreditation, Compliance and Regulatory units.
  • Leads local participation in programmatic accreditation and ensures compliance with federal, state, and accrediting body standards.
  • Oversees programmatic outcome analysis and develops improvement plans.
  • Implements curricular and teaching effectiveness to support program, student, and faculty success.
  • Leads PT program review.
  • Ensures consistent evaluation of student academic and behavioral performance.
  • Ensures the curriculum is contemporary, well-delivered, and compliant with accreditation standards.
  • Promotes course coordination in PT courses and other disciplines.
  • Encourages, supports, and develops intercampus and interprofessional educational and research endeavors.
  • Reviews admissions standards and procedures for PT programs with Admissions.
  • Promotes University’s core values.
  • Supports and demonstrates a student-centered philosophy.
  • Attends and participates in Academic Leadership, Program Director Council, and Student-Director Meetings.
  • Maintains superior customer service to internal and external customers.

Requirements

  • Earned academic/terminal degree (e.g., Ph.D., Ed.D., DHSc., etc.).
  • 7-10 years of progressive academic administrative experience in higher education.
  • Professional experience in a health professional field preferred.
  • Experience developing educational programs; growth oriented.
  • Demonstrated senior-level administrative ability.
  • University/College level faculty employment and teaching experience.
  • Knowledge of discipline-specific accreditation.
  • Personal and professional values in concert with the University’s mission and vision.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and management skills.
  • Demonstrates forward, creative thinking.
