About the Role
The Medical Assistant provides professional clinical care for patients following established standards and practices. This role involves preparing patients for examinations and assisting providers during treatments, examinations, and testing. The Medical Assistant also plays a key role in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment and ensuring patient comfort and understanding.
Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for examination and assist providers during treatment, examinations, and testing.
- Prepare, restock, and sterilize examination rooms, procedure rooms, lab area, and all other patient care areas.
- Record patients' medical history, health maintenance, and chief complaint.
- Measure, record, and document vital signs.
- Perform phlebotomy, injections, and other specimen collection as directed by the provider.
- Educate patients by providing information and instructions as directed by the provider.
- Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures, and complying with legal regulations.
- Sterilize medical instruments per established standards and procedures.
- Relay messages from patients and front office staff to providers.
- Represent the office in a professional manner.
- Treat all customers, internal and external, in a courteous and cooperative manner.
- Participate in team activities and professional development activities.
- Attend required meetings.
- Embody the Women’s Care mission and core values.
- Ensure compliance with all HIPAA rules, regulations, and guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Certified Medical Assistant preferred or ability to obtain certification within 120 days of employment (FL Only).
- Graduate of a nationally accredited Medical Assistant program OR served in the Armed Forces as a Medical Technician with honorable discharge to be eligible for employment and MA certification.
- Current CPR and/or BLS certification preferred or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment via Women’s Care training.
- Experience working in OBGYN or Primary Care is a plus.
- Working knowledge of medical terminology.
- Ability to perform phlebotomy and administer injections, if applicable.
- Ability to perform dosage calculations and measurement conversions.
- Must possess the ability to interact and communicate professionally and effectively with all levels of internal personnel, providers, personnel of outside organizations, and patients and their family members, both written and verbally.
- Must possess good organizational skills, handle multiple tasks concurrently, and be able to work effectively with all levels of aforementioned groups.
- Ability to use a computer and enter data in electronic medical records application, preferably eCW.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Must be dependable, reliable, and punctual.
