About the Role

Alstom is seeking a full-time High Level Technician in London to assist the Fleet Operator with mechanical and electrical maintenance, fault finding, and repair on Class 357 Electrostars and Class 720/6 Aventra trains. The role involves ensuring maintenance complies with company procedures and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide train systems engineering advice for vehicle systems including TCMS, HVAC, propulsion, brakes, doors, and on-train communications.
  • Act as a point of contact for Production and control room staff for in-service fault resolution.
  • Optimize train maintenance according to defined examination schedules.
  • Assist customers with detailed fault finding and diagnostics.
  • Produce solutions for short-term mitigation and long-term resolution.
  • Monitor warranty issues and liaise with supplier technical teams.
  • Attend to faulty trains in service, perform component replacements, and modification work.
  • Assist customers with root cause analysis using Alstom FRACAS, 8D, and PPS methodologies.
  • Ensure correct replacement parts are sourced.
  • Assist operators in updating maintenance instructions, overhaul instructions, processes, and procedures.
  • Liaise with Alstom Technical Publications and Central Engineering teams.
  • Monitor train reliability and availability performance, issuing monthly reports.
  • Monitor trains in service using the Orbita/Healthhub remote monitoring system.
  • Download train data from onboard data recorders using laptops.
  • Run diagnostics software to identify faults with various train systems.
  • Perform system software updates as required.
  • Address obsolescence avoidance and mitigation.
  • Provide engineering support for all safety-related incidents (NIRs).
  • Represent the Customer with respect to Design Authority and equipment OEMs.
  • Produce affirmative closing actions for safety incidents.
  • Act as Service Provider representative on the internal safety forum.
  • Share experience gained from other fleets globally.
  • Provide recommendations and opportunities for design improvements, standardization, and modifications.
  • Contribute to Health and Safety daily.
  • Write strong reports.

Requirements

  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship.
  • Minimum qualification required – NVQ Level 3 in an electrical discipline.
  • Use of Laptops and diagnostic tools to determine faults.
  • Ability to work from maintenance manuals and schematics.
  • Experience of Mechanical or Electrical fault finding.
  • Experience of Mechanical or Electrical repairs.
  • Troubleshooting and evidence gathering.
